Subject: Richard Pitt presentation to CPCC re tariff on recordable
media - i.e $200 a hard disk is possible
This is the mathematics of the press release I sent yesterday.
Pay attention. If put in place, you could be paying more
in levies on a new hard drive than you pay for the hard drive. Because
the levies will NOT be imposed on personal purchases brought in from the United
States, it could be worth two or three hundred dollars to take a trip to
Bellingham for your hard Drive, your burnable CD's, etc. This will have
an extremely negative affect on the Canadian retail computer trade.
This office, for instance, has bought 15 used Lexmark 4039 and
4049 laser printers since Xmas 2001. It is a simple process.
