Dear FL,
No, IO mean funny as in stupid. Life is in that regard a
slapstick comedy, at least for me...
Nobody really knows why transsexuals are so badly discriminated
against. In Ontario, the last place to release a full report, we were
described as "arguably the most discriminated goupr in society". That
holds true, from my own experiences and those that have been told to me.
This applies in health care, employment, rental - any area at all. I am
16x more likely to be murdered than married, and my chances of being assaulted
are very high in comparison to other groups, even gays.
A family will gather round a son who commits a gross murder (as
recently happened in B.C. The transsexual son they will abandon totally, more
often than not.
Please do not misunderstand me - before David chimes in. There
are pluses and I have never been happier. But the exchange demanded by
our society is harsh. Suicide rates are estimated at anywhere for 20% to
50%, a stat borne out by my own experience. That is the highest for any
specific group.
When I counsel others who may be thinking of starting "transition", I
advise them to think about their families, their friends and acquaintances,
their careers and jobs, their assets and everything in their lives. Then
I as, Is your need great enough to risk *all* of that??? for if the
desire is not that much, the person will fall away. You have to need, to
want it badly enough to take that risk.
But all that is a different issue. We were ....where???
Hugs,
Willow
