Ozzie Jurock (www.featureweb.com
and www.jurock.com) has monthly
meetings for the clients of his Featureweb Web site. I do not know the
exact number but there are some 500 businesses hosted by Jurock.com or
Featureweb.com.
I am reasonably proud of the fact that CEN-TA had one of
the first actual INTERNET sites in CANADA and was a small part of the first
commercial ISP in Canada which was founded by Stuart Lynne and then joined by
Richard Pitt who had me on email through Stuart since about 1985.
Richard had my books on line on the Internet in 1986 and
it is likely that (as if it matters) my income tax guide was the first full
best seller to be readable on the net. (You can still find it at
www.centa.com).
Over the years, I lost interest in the Internet per se.
It was so big that I was lost. It went from my being the "only" tax and
real estate business on the net to there being 3,000 tax businesses and even
another real estate company with the same name "David Ingram and Associates
Realty Inc" in Bransom Missouri.
At one of his monthly featureweb.com
internet meetings last March, Ozzie pointed out to the assembled multitudes
that one had to work at the internet and demonstrated things like meta-tags
which could (with proper use and placement) move your website closer to the top
with different search engines.
He quite correctly pointed out that if one is not in the
"top ten" in search engines like Google, no stranger will ever know who you
are.
I looked and although "Ingram and income tax" had me in
the top ten,
and "ingram and real estate" had me in the top ten and
"ingram and immigration" had me in the top ten, You could not find us in
the top 200 under "vancouver and income tax" or "vancouver and immigration" or
"vancouver and real estate". It was obvious that you found me quick if
you were looking for that guy "ingram" but if you were looking for help in
Vancouver and did not know my name, you were not going to find me easily on the
net.
Well, I went home and started experimenting with meta tags
but I was not getting anywhere. I found out that it is a major
input to move that position so that search engines paid attention.
Richard, our webmaster guru was too busy at the time, so I
hired a lady who had won an international award for her web site. I hired
Gillian Guess (some would say the notorious Gillian Guess) to "get us there".
Gillian has been working at moving our position ever since.
Over the last six months, there has been a noticeable rise
in enquiries from "strangers" who have found us on the net. AND,
I am now proud to say that Gillian now has the CEN-TA
Group as number one on Google and Number one on Yahoo and most of the others if
you type in "Vancouver and Income Tax" - Try it.
So I phoned and left my buddy Ozzie, a message so that I
could show him that I had taken his message to heart and done something about
it. (Ozzie loves to motivate people).
Ozzie sent me this reply. It is exactly what I like.
One-Upmanship. While I was concentrating on "income tax and vancouver",
ozzie had his people concentrating on the rest of the business and economic
spectrum. I particularly like the fact that if you type in "vancouver and
tax advisors", I come up number one on OZZIE's site.
Why am I sending this. It is to try and pull an
OZZIE. OZZIE stimulated me; I want to stimulate my friends and clients to
take a look at their web site and see where you stand.
If you are a gardener and someone types in "vancouver and
gardener", I hope that "your" site comes up. (I have a gardener client
with a a web site - just tried this and could not find him - this is for him).
If you are a car dealer and some one types in Vancouver and car dealer, you
should be there.
If you are not there, you might want to contact Ozzie's
featureweb.com people at 683-1111, Richard Pitt (First commercial ISP in
Canada) at 644-9265 or Gillian Guess at 604-913-9133 (she has some time
available) to put you in the top ten of your industry.
Thanks for the Stimulation Ozzie and thanks for the new
challenge.
After finding us at the top for all those "Vancouver and
income tax hits", I tried "Canada income tax" and could not find our site in
the fist 100. Soooo! Gillian has been asked to to
get us to the top for "Canada and Income tax", "United States and Income tax"
(for people in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Australia, and London England who need US
Tax help), BC and income tax, British Columbia and income Tax, Canada and
Immigration, etc., etc. Of course, Ozzie is
already got Number 2 for Vancouver and Immigration so beating him and getting
number one would be a real plum.
The challenge is yours.
