Tax returns for CDN working in US - ask international

QUESTION:
Hello, I have a BC Corporation doing business in the US. I have not filed
my returns for the last couple of years because I did not I needed to. We
perform 99% of the work in BC.
Do you have any recommendation on how to deal with this?
Mahalo,

david ingram replies:
I have been up to my neck and have two or three UBC exams to write in the
next three weeks and then plan to take off the last two weeks of August for
an actual vacation, my fist since 2002. This will likely be my last day of
answering anything other than from my clients until September 5th or so.
Your corporation likely does not need to file a US tax return if 99% is done
in Canada. If any of your employees are performing services in the US
though, they will likely need to file a US tax return. If they do, it will
not result in more taxes, just a reapportionment.
You can find out more by reading three different sections at www.centa.com.
1.	Read the Nov 1999 Newsletter at the top left hand corner. this will give
you an idea of whether or not you need to file a US return.
2.	Read the "entering the US" section on the right hand side. This will
give you an idea of what visas you or your staff might need.
3.	Read the US / Canada Taxation section on the right hand side. This will
give you an idea of who has to pay what and when.
----------------
you should likely hire me or someone like me for an hour or two to talk to
you and your employees about the relevant tax and working visa rules.
