CANADIANS PLAN NATIONAL PRO-CANADIAN AND PRO-USA RALLY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 18, 2003
VANCOUVER BC – On Saturday, April 26 2003, Canadians will take to the
streets in major cities across Canada in what is being called a ‘National
Freedom Rally’to express friendship and solidarity with the United States of
America, celebrate the liberation of the people in Iraq, and honour Canadian
troops.
“We want to show the American people that the citizens of Canada stand
shoulder to shoulder with them, and we hope our government realizes that
soon” said Cheryl Kaysser, who is behind organizing the Freedom Rallies in
Vancouver. “We’re also
demanding more respect for our military and formal recognition for their
efforts in Iraq.”
In light of President Bush canceling his scheduled trip to Ottawa, and the
growing distance in the relationship between Canada and the United States,
organizers say they feel more compelled than ever to arrange a ‘National Day
of Support’ for their allies.
The National Freedom Rally will be held at the same time across Canada,
beginning earlier in Ottawa at 12:00 noon EST, then followed by Vancouver at
11am PST, Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatoon at 12 noon MST, Winnipeg at 1pm
CST, Montreal at 2pm EST and London at 2pm EST.
Ottawa will kick off the National Freedom Rally on Parliament Hill with a
minute of silence at 12:00 noon EST for victims and fallen troops in the
Iraq war, and the rest of the cities will observe a minute of silence at
11:00 am PST/2:00 pm EST.
Vancouver’s Freedom Rally will be held at the Seaforth Park, located on the
Kitsilano side of the Burrard Street bridge.
