Canada to USA job search - international non-resident cross border income tax help estate family trust assistance expert prepara

Hi Mr. Ingram,
 
My best friend and I have this question:
 
I am a Canadian Citizen while he is a Canadian Permanent Resident.  I don't need a visa to enter the US while he has an B1/B2 Visa.  If we both go to the US as visitors (we are usually given 6 months' maximum stay when we do this), is it legal to look for a job there?  If it is, what kind of jobs?  If a company there is willing to "sponsor" or working visas, is that ok?

If you told the border officer that you were going to look for a job it is legal.  If you did not and only said you were going as visitors, you are illegal.
 
When you tell the border person that you are looking for a job, you should be able to prove that you qualify for the proper working visa.

If you do not have a recognized specialty or University Degree in a profession, it is unlikely.
 
Truck drivers, clerks, sales people, sales managers, etc do NOT and likely WILL not qualify.
