David,
I spoke to you couple weeks ago regarding my job offer in Indiana. I am presently thinking buying a new car here and moving it down to the States with me. I figure the new car price is about the same in Canadian and US so I will be gaining on the exchange rate, but is there any tax or fee or duty I should be aware off. I am also thinking taking advantage of the no interest loan also. Will that affect my non resident status ?
Second question, do I have to give up my BC driver license if I go down. If so, will I lose my ICBC roadstar status if I come back? Do I have to do road test also ?
I would like to hire your firm to look after my taxes while I am in the States. You mention it will cost about $700 per year for me and my wife. I assume that will cover my inititial meeting to go over my present financial picture, Is that correct ?
Once Again, Thanks

Be careful that yu do not let the Canadian dealer know you are intending to take the car to the US. The dealer can lose their car franchise if the dealer knowingly sells a car going to the USA.
If you are truly living in the USA, keeping a BC driver's licence will not (by itself) will not make you a resident of Canada iof you also have a US driver's licence. However, having a BC medical card would be stronger evidence of a Canadian Association.
I charge for meetings and for the returns at $350.00 per hour Canadian. I do not usually charge for in between phone calls. Therefore, I would charge for both an initial consultation plus the tax returns. Typically the returns would be about two hours unless there are a lot of stocke sales or the sale of a house, etc.
