QUESTION:
I am a Canadian Citizen and will be working for an American based company in Canada. (this company has no offices in Canada)I will be working out of my home.
I can't seem to find information on how this would work tax wise. Is it best that I be self employed or an employee?
Thank you in advance for your time
Regards

You are taxable in Canada and could ber self-employed or an employee. It will be easier for the comapny if you are self employed. On the other hand, if something goes wrong, you will not get Employment Insurance benefits and would have a hard time getting any loss of employment payments for wrongful dismissal if they let you go.
You should have them pay you a separate fee fo the rental of the office in your home. That way you can write off interest and taxes as an employee or self employed. Otherwise, as an employee, you can only write off repairs and maintenance and some heat and light. As a self employed person (or when renting them the office), you can write off a lot more stuff.
It's a toss-up. You might want to pay for a consultation by phone or in person.
