Hello,
I was wondering if you could guide me in the right direction with what I should do for filing taxes this year. I am a dual citizen of the US and Canada (I have a Canadian SIN and an American SSN). I lived in Canada my whole life (Ontario) and last April (2003), I moved to California. I worked from Jan - Apr in Ontario and from Jun - Dec in California. Do I have to file in both countries? If yes, do I repeat information or do I file Canadian income with Canada and US income with US? I would appreciate any help you can provide!
Thank you,
VXXXXXXXXXX

I hate to be commercial but "Your" return is our specialty and what we do by phone, fax, email, snailmail and courier.
You need to do a departing Canada and Ontario return which would include you Canadian earnings and a T1161 to calculate deemed sales of mutual funds, etc.
For California, you need a 540NR and a schedule CA(NR) at least. You would file a dual status 1040 for the Federal return.
Our fee for filing those returns would be about $700.00 Canadian if no T1161 was involved and more if you had more than $25,000 of capital assets when you left for the T1161. By the way, the penalty for not filing the T1161 with your return is $25.00 a day to a maximum of $2,500.
