QUESTION: I've searched your site looking for the answer to this question but cannot find it. My husband and I are both Canadian living in Seattle. My husband works here with a TN1 Visa transferring to an H1B this fall. I have a TD visa dependant on his TN1 as do our 4 children. Can I work here? Will I be able to work once he has a H1B? Will our children be able to work here ever? My husband hopes to one day get a greencard where I assume we will be all able to work at this time. Any advice on what to do for now. My education is Computer Science 2 year diploma.
Thanks a lot. Love your site it's very helpful. Keep up the good work.

david ingram replies:
Neither you nor your children can work in the US at any occupation including most volunteer positions until your family obtains resident alien (green) cards.
Your best position is to finish a computer degree while in the US and qualify for your own TN or H1B your self. You, may, in fact, be able to qualify for a Computer System analyst under the TN classification if you have three years of relative experience to go with your 2 year diploma as in:
* Computer Systems Analyst - BA or Post-secondary Diploma or Post-secondary certificate and three years of practical experience. This does not get you to the USA, if your job is programming a computer. An Analyst might spend a day a month working on some modifications (in a testing mode for instance), but they better not be thought of as a "programmer" within the company.
The above quote came from [Entering the US] which you can find at www.centa.com
Thank you for the compliment.
