QUESTION:
Hi,
I am currently located in the US and am in the process of filling out the immigration forms to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.
Is it worth it to hire someone to review the immigration forms before submitting them? (The directions indicate that it should not be necessary). If so, who would you suggest?
Also how long does it take for the immigration process to complete?

My opinion is that if you are a skilled worker from the United States, you should be able to fill in the forms yourself.
If you want someone to look them over first, I would be glad to do so and likely charge you in the $700.00 to $1,000.00 range if after May 1 and $1,000 to $1,500 in April. The advantage of having me look them over as opposed to other immigration consultants is that I can add in some tax advice for both countries which no other immigration consultant that I know of does.
How long?
Anywhere from 12 months to 18 months. It was expected to drop but a court decision last June resulted in some 290,000 extra applications being put in front of you as they reduced the qualification points from 75 to 67 and ordered a year's worth of rejections looked at again.
Of course, if you have a job offer and qualify under a NAFTA professional status, you can be living and working here in a week and apply for the permanent status from within Canada.
