American being "transferred" to Canada - ask an

QUESTION: I am a US citizen planning to move to Canada and applying for
Permanent Residence and eventually citizenship. I work for a US company
that has a Candaian division. I will keep my current job and work remotely
from Canada (reporting to management in the US) and be paid by the Canadian
division of my company. My immediate concern is getting a work permit so I
can continue to work while I wait for my premanent residency to be approved.
Everything I've seen online says I need a confirmation of a job offer in
Canada to obtain a work permit, but I am not actually being offered a job in
Canada. What can my company and I do to obtain a work permit? Thanks.

david ingram replies:
Your company should transfer you. This is a relatively simple process
provided your job is one of management or superior knowledge.
You can read more on pages 28 and 29 of the Foreign Worker's Manual at:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/manuals-guides/english/fw/fwe.pdf
After being in Canada for one year it is usually a relatively simple process
for you to qualify for Permanent Resident status.
I am extremely busy for next month., If you need quicker service, I would
be glad to recommend someone to help you if you tell me where you are
intending to move to in Canada.
