QUESTION: I am the president of the Eastern District of our denomination (US
incorporated) which includes congregations in the NE states and in Ontario.
We are beginning a new church work in Mississauga and we will be paying
salary and benefits to a pastor who will be on site. Can we (as a US
corporation) open up a bank account in Canada from which we can make salary
and benefit payments until such time as the new congregation is organized
and incorporates in Canada? If so, how do we go about doing this? Thank

You could do so but why go to the bother. You would need or should have
extra provincial registration and then are faced with having to file
Canadian Corporate tax returns as a non-profit.
Just have a new member of the congregation or anyone else you trust open an
account and pay out the monies for you.
The new congregation can repay the monies to your organization or you can
leave it behind as a charitable contribution.
An alternative although likely just as much trouble would be to use a
payroll service like that offered by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
