AR-11 - US immigration - Greg Boos -

QUESTION:
Hello David – I’m a permanent Resident of the United States and I’m a little
confused with regards to form AR-11 (Report a Change of Address). The
Confusion comes because I’m not living in the United States, I’m in Canada;
and I’m a Resident alien commuter. I originally notified the INS on I-90 of
taking up commuter status and have received my new Permanent resident card.
I was going to fill out AR-11 because we are moving within Canada to another
house in the same town, But AR-11 states it is only to report the change of
address of an alien in the United States.
Since I’m not in the United States do I still have to send in AR-11?.
Thank you, for your time.

david ingram replies:
As a rule the
AR-11 form is used by those applying for citizenship who have a pending
application with the USCIS. If you do not have a pending application, I do
not believe that you are required to file the AR-11 --- However, I am NOT
a lawyer and therefore NOT a member of the American Immigration Lawyers
Association. I suggest that to be sure you either contact a member such as
Joe Grasmick - www.grasmick.com - or simply file the form. It can NOT hurt
to file it and You are in the US everyday.
A commuter green card is very rare. The expert I know for this is Greg Boos
in Bellingham. His phone is 360-671-5945.
You can also read a newsletter he wrote for me back in July 1996. GOTO
www.cenmta.com and click on newsletters in the top left hand box. Click on
1996 and then July to read Greg's newsletter. This was one of only three
guest newsletters in 15 years.
