For some reason or other, I received two serious negatives about
the online bill paying service PayPal this week.
This one from the World Money Laundering Report deals with
Nigel's own dealings.
*** PayPal - they deserve all they get
PayPal's in trouble - and WMLR says its ID system is a shambles
that allows it to retain users money that should be released.

Many complaints revolve around individuals and businesses not
getting their money back or having their accounts frozen with no
apparent method of getting through.
Many of you will remember my experience with CompAtlanta's Sid
Mitchell's refusal to sell me a printer because I am a Canadian.
I had paid for the printer and CompAtlanta sent a refund back
through PayPal. It was credited to my account instantly although
i see that it cost me some $11.00 Canadian in service charges or
exchange rates or something. Hmm! maybe I should complain as
well.
If you want to see a picture of Sid Mitchell (and read the story)
outside his store in Lawrenceville, Georgia (a suburb of Atlanta
as I understand it) click on:

This story made the rounds around the world with articles in
magazines (Time for instance) and newspapers in at least 50
countries I have been able to find.
The following is the one day record of the PayPal account on
April 3, 2003.
As you can see, $167.50 US cost me $251.69 but resulted in a
refund of $240.48 two hours later. (The price of fame - $10.21
Canadian)
