Thank you for your reply. My husband was born in August 1949, so he was =
very small, and the oldest, therefore no school etc.The father commuted =
to work in Canada, and you are right, since there were no services etc. =
everything was done in Canada. The folks are old, the house was rented =
and they don't even remember the address. They did not have a phone . =
What I was thinking is finding out which was the utility company at that =
time servicing Point Roberts and seeing if they have records going back =
50 years. All that the parents have are pictures in front of the house in =
Point Rpberts. What is very interesting, is that based on this evidence =
the Consul verbally advised us that our daughter's application was =
approved (Sept 4th 2003.) Apparently in 1992, I, not my husband, filled =
out a preliminary questionnaire and did not mention this period of time =
at Point Roberts. I did not remember that I had done this and further I =
did it on my own initiative, without consulation with the folks or =
husband. We did not know of this period of time until we consulted with =
his parents last fall. So now they are thinking we are fraudulent or =
something??. I find this whole conduct very unprofessional, especially =
in view of the fact that I am not the applicant and the questionnaire is =
unsigned. Anyway, if you have any suggestions re finding some =
circumstatial evidence please let me know and I would be glad to pay =
you for this Thanks. =20

Check old real estate offices and find out if there is a rental record. =
Take the parents for a drive. They must be able to remember something =
about where they lived. If you can find the street, even if the house =
was torn down, there should be some old hydro records. Even if they did =
not have a phone, go to the phone company and look up old directories. =
There should be a neighbour who is traceable and can give you an =
affidavit.=20
I know that the same people live behind and the same people live across =
the street from the house I lived in, in Winnipeg in 1950.=20
Find out if Canada's archives show their address somewhere. I found a =
scanned copy of my grandfathers's enlistment papers in the first world =
war in the Canadian Government's website archives. (An actual scanned =
copy - not just a mention)=20
Was father a deacon in a church. did father belong to Rotary, or Lions =
or Kinsmen clubs?
There was a 1950 Census - You can find a sample of the form at: =
http://www.ipums.umn.edu/usa/voliii/form1950.html
You might be able to get details from the census.
Who was his old employer? There is almost bound to be a fellow employee =
alive who knew where he lived and / or maybe the company's records are =
still available. Maybe there weas a company picnic at the Point for =
instance.
Fifty years is a long time but we have gone back to 1898 school records =
in Philadelphia. Keep looking.
  =20
If they were "poor", they may be mentioned in an old salvation Army =
record for instance=20

Subject: evidence requirement to prove physical presence in US.
Dear Sirs, my husband is a U.S. born citizen(also army vet) We live in =
Canada. His parents are both US born citizens. We are applying for =
citizenship for our 14 year daughter born in Canada. We lack 8.5 months =
of proof of physical presence in the US.
Family emigrated to Canada in May 1950 from Wash. State. Although the =
father worked in Canada, the family lived in Point Robert during a 24 =
month period from 1950 to1952. It is crucial to prove presence during =
some of this period. Unfortunately, other than some family pictures =
there is no other proof. We have submitted affidavits from the parents, =
but the Consulate requires more. Do you have any suggestions? and is =
there any case law on this issue. Thank you
  =

Think of unconventional prrof. Point Roberts had no industry to speak =
of in the fifties (still doesn't) and residents of Point Robets had to =
deal with business people in Canada. =20
Think of doctor's offices, dentists offices, libraries, churches, cub =
scouts, boy scouts, girl guides and other organizations that you r =
husband or his borthers and sisters or mother an dfather may have been =
members of. Get hold of old phone directories, business directories, =
Rotary Club rosters, Kights of Columbus, Masons. Union records, etc., =
etc. =20
Check on his military enlistment papers which would have had his old =
addresses on them when he enlisted or was drafted.=20
Depending on his age, he likely attended schoiol or kindergarten in =
Point Roberts or an older brother or sister did. There is no hospital =
in Point Roberts and there is a possibility that a brother or sister was =
born at home in Point Roberts.
See if his father's employer has old employment records showing the =
family's records.
A car dealership or an old store may have some histropical records or =
an older neighbout down the street (they could only be 70) might be able =
to give you an affidavit statinmg that the family lived in Point =
Roberts.
Just some ideas. I am putting htis out to the list and someone else =
may have an addition to make.
