Donald Cameron, former Canadian Consul in Seattle and now a Canadian Immigfration Consultant in Vancovuer [email protected] points out that the J1 Student Visa still applies. I thought it had been cancelled last February but I find that it just had more restrictions placed on it.
Australia, New Zealand and Japan still allow the work permit without your being a student. The USA demands that you be an undergraduate and that you have a pre-arranged job before you go which may make Disneyland tough if they wioll not give you the job without the visa and you cannot get th e job eithout a visa already arranged. On the other hand, the New York City Parks Board (among others) will gladly give you the job (assuming there is one).
Your work permit allows just about any job you might want. there ae some exclusions though.
Exclusions: Domestic Employment, Work with patients, work on Cruise ships, working on international air flights, any work in casinos, camp counsellor, dealing with any children under 13 years old.
Three organizations that can help you are: AIPT www.aipt.org; CDS International www.cdsint.org and SWAP Canada www.swap.ca and Apex USA www.apexusa.org - There is an application information form you can look at at: http://www.apexusa.org/Applications/App03.pdf
The first two likely have their forms and applications availavble on campus at the Registrar's office or a student counsellor's office. I checked both UBC and the University of Waterloo and found references to where to go and who to talk to at the University of Waterloo and acknowledgement of the program at UBC.
Thanks Don,

Subject: US Working Visa for Canadian to work four months atDisneyland in Anaheim, Orange County, California
  Dear Mr. David Ingram,
My name is LXXXXX and I'm a 21 year old Canadian Citizen who would like to temporarily move to and work in the US (California specifically) at the end of April 2004 until the second week of September 2004.
I am writing to inquire about Working Visa options and how to apply for them. I do have an application for an H2-B Working Visa.
However, I sent away for the application not realizing that in order to even apply I already had to have a job offer from a US employer.
I would like to go over to California to hopefully spend the summer working in Disneyland with some American friends of mine and they have informed me that the resort will not sponsor a Visa.
Are there any 4 or 6 month temporary Working, Working Vacation or other Visas I can apply for?
Thanks so much for any advice you can provide!
  LXXXXX

I get the idea that you want to work in the haunted house at Disneyland and from your email address, it would seem that they should hire you but it is a no go.
There are no student working vacation visas available between Canada and the US and all the visas that are available (except a "P" visa) require the company to apply for the visa. If you were a famous vampire or a famous Dracula impersonator, a "P" visa could be it. To quote from www.centa.com [Entering the United States]
NOTE - Most Visas have to be applied for by the company or organization requesting the services of the worker, or student, etc. The following "P" classification visas can be applied for by the individual themselves.
P-1 - Internationally Recognized Athlete or Member of Internationally Recognized Entertainment Group under 101(a)(15)(P)(i)
P-2 - Artist or Entertainer in a Reciprocal Exchange Program
P-3 - Artist or Entertainer in a Culturally Unique Program
  P-4 - Spouse or Child of P-1, P-2, or P-3
However, it is unlikely that you fit in here. Wish I had better news for you.
There are temporary working visas you could get to work in Australia but that isa a long way from the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland.
I don't know if you are from Vancouver, but we just had FOUR haunted houses set up at the PNE grounds for a month before Halloween. I was there once and one of my sons went four times and then he and his sister set up one at home with two fog machines, 12 foot hanging spiders and 6 foot hanging irridescent skeletons and about 2,000 square feet of spider webs, hanging ghost lights, black lights and 6 marvellously carved pumpkins with a halloween CD playing in the background.
