david ingram replies:
A tough one. I can say that my typical charge is $600 or $700 Cdn.
However, we start returns at $75.00 and it is not unusual for a US / Canadian return to cost $1,000 or even $2,000 where there ae a large number of stock sales, mutual fund redemtions, sale of family home, and ownership of more than 5% of the shares of a Canadian Corporation which requires the filing of form 5471 ($1,100 by itself)
What is more likely that your US and Canadian returns are incorrect. It depends upon the amount of US tax you paid on your US pensions. If you paid more than 15% tax to the US, they are wrong. If the pensions are small (less than $30,000) they will likely be okay.
