David,
I was just going to write and say kudos for your answers and wit and =
humour and THEN it dawned on me that I DO have a question :
I am here on a TN visa and will be getting married Dec 27 to an American =
citizen and then applying for a green card etc. I am assuming it is =
probably best to have a lawyer handle all this rather than attempt the =
INS myself??? I'm in Oregon if that makes any difference and the lawyer =
that handled my TN paperwork is back east. Not sure if that makes a =
difference either!!! I really need to get my status adjusted ASAP as my =
TN visa job is one that isn't as expected and I really need to be able =
to just go and get a "regular" job where I want.
Any advice gratefully received!
And I think your website and columns are great.
Regards
KXXXXXXXX

Be careful not to leave the country between your marriage and your =
actual receipt of the green card. If you do, you will not be allowed =
back in.
Now that you are engaged and a wedding date is set, you should not leave =
either. Of a border person knows or finds out what you are going to do, =
you will not be allowed back in,
They catch you with wedding invitations in your attach=E9 case or a =
wedding dress in your suitcase.
Don't go through a border (to Mexico or Europe either) until you have =
your green card in hand.
If you do have to go, pay for an advance parole which gives you =
permission to leave and return during the green card process after =
marriage. =20
The Advance Parole is NOT good for "before" the marriage.
