QUESTION:
I am a Canadian Citizen (born and raised)just over 8 months pregnant. He =
(father) is an American Citizen (born and raised). He lives and works =
(without permits)in Canada in the film industry and returns to the =
states every 5-6 months for a few weeks to a month. Things with us have =
been quite uncertain, but amiable and progressively better since the =
beginning of the pregnancy. I, however, have just begun Social =
Assistance and suspect this would affect any chance of sponsorship (I =
also have a poor credit rating from my University days, 8 years ago).=20
Are there any possibilities for him to become a Canadian Citizen...or =
the progression towards this? If so, what would you suggest?

If you are living in a common-law relationship and if he is in Canada as =
a visitor, you can sponsor him as a common-law-spouse from within =
Canada, even on welfare but you would both have to be on welfare..
Of course, if he is working, if you were to claim common-law status, =
you do not qualify for welfare. It is a bit of a Catch-22.
You say that he is working without permits which means that he is inteh =
country illegally while working.
He should get a working visa at least. After a year or so, he can apply =
for his own permanent resident status. If you prefer to go the married =
or common-law route, you better get off welfare and let him start paying =
the bills.
