QUESTION:
my husband passed away last year.we used to live in the states.he got ill
with cancer when we lived there.we then moved back to canada,our home
town.he did not fill a few years of taxes there.am i still responsible for
it.i have lived back in canada since 2003 and would like to know if they
will let me go back to the states to travel,or am i banned from ever
entering again.the irs did phone me and all they requested from me was a
death certificate, and they seemed on the phone to want to just close it
after that.
please let me know if i can travel there.i had a green card but am a
canadian citizen and never became an american citizen.please adivise.i still
work for us companies in canada.

There is no reason that I can see from your letter that you would be
restricted for returning to the States for a visit. Your green card is
likely cancelled by now but may still be alive and could certainly be alive
if you had been filing US tax returns while in Canada.
If you have never turned in or surrendered your green card, you should still
be filing your US returns.
