Hello, Mr. Ingram,
I got an NR4 from TD due to my RRSP withdrawal in 2007. I just want to confirm that I do not need to file Canadian income tax. 25% tax was withheld by TD from my total RRSP.

Thanks and best regards,

US resident selling Canadian Property -

QUESTION: Hi David,My husband and I are US Citizens and are thinking of selling our summer home in Canada. I have researched online quiet a bit on the forms/paper work required, but I am unclear how the process/timing would go. Also, I have a tax question as well. Before we list with a Realtor, I am wondering how much time we should state in our listing agreement as to when the home could be closed on by a potiental buyer, that would allow us to file the T2062 and get the Certificate of Compliance. And is the T2062 typically filed after an offer is made or after the potential buyer has completed inspections, and loan approval? Or is this all done at the time of closing? If so who's attorney holds the tax money that would be sent for the Certificate of Compliance. We currently do not have an ITN number, should we file for that now or wait and do both forms together. (T1261 and T2062) From what I have read it looks like my husband and I both need to file each of the forms as both names are on the title of the house. Please correct me if I am mistaken. For my last question, we bought when the exchange rate was 1.535 in 1998 now it is 0.990. How is the gain in the exchange rate handled?Thank you in advance for your help.

CANADA non-residency advice re offshore pilots and flight crew -

General News

Hi David,
I have been unsuccessfully trying to get on your website
www.centa.com
I continually get the message that I am not authorized to view your website - is there any secret to accessing your website?
In addition, I'm wondering if you could recommend a tax lawyer or tax firm that might specialize in the unique situation of a Canadian non-resident pilot, who is based in the USA, but whose flights take him off shore of both Canada and the USA?
Thanks
Lori

General News

Hi Mr. Ingram -
I found your information online, and was wondering if you could answer a question for me.  Is it possible for a US Citizen to purchase a home, live in Canada, and work for a US employer (not Canadian based)?  One person would be crossing the boarder 2 or 3 times a week to work, and the other person telecommutes from their home office who's employer is based in New York City.

Thanks,

T4or W2 slip does not match payroll stub -

QUESTION: i have what i hope is a really simple question. I get paid weekly from my employer but also get another pay once a month from the same employer. I got my t4 slip and I notice that my tax income did not match the last pay stubs. When i questioned the employer it was because they moved some money from my tax to my CPP. This is going to make me pay over 300. Can my employer do this they will not change my t4 can i just file with the pay stub information??

UK tax on stock options -

I tried to use your "Ask an Expert" page but I had problems...

I work for a Canadian subsidiary of a UK-based firm so the stock is traded on the London Stock Exchange.  I exercised stock options last year.  At the time of the exercise-and-sell transaction, UK taxes were withheld.  The stock option benefit was reported in box 38 on my T4 but there's no notation of the foreign tax withheld.  Can I claim a credit for the UK taxes and, if so, on which line or which form?

Thanks.
