CANADA Dual

General News
I was born in the U.S. but lived and worked all my life in Canada and still reside in Canada.

I now have a U.S. passport and was told to fill U.S. income tax which I have done now going back 3 years.
If I sell my principal residence in Canada, am I required to pay any tax in the U.S. or to file on my U.S. tax firm this sale?

CANADA US income for Canadian T-1 tax return - US Canada Canadian American Mexican Income Tax help dual citizenship

General News QUESTION:(1) Just wonder which figure in W-2 form should be used as the US (worldwide) income for filing Canadian T-1 tax return?Say, in W-2, the number in column 1 "wages, tips, other compensation" is 50,000; while the number in column 3 "social security wages" is 60,000 (seems to me the number 60,000 is made up from the number 50,000 above plus the number of 10,000 from 401K contribution).(2) Which part contributed in the US W-2 can be considered for the use of foreign tax credit in Canadian T-1 return(both Federal and provincial in Canada): Federal income withheld, social security tax withheld, state income tax, local(city) income tax? How to handle the 401K contribution? Thanks for your help.

Which tax deductions should be taken from pay - David Ingram gives expert income tax service & immigration help to non-resident

I was hoping you could help direct us to some documentation that highlights what the proper procedure would be for our situation. My husband is a Canadian Citizen and resident and was working in Bellingham, WA under a TN Visa (one year renewal require) for the past 7 yrs. He has now been transfered to the Surrey, British Columbia Canada their Sister location as of Nov 2007. He was always on the US payroll and paid US taxes and filed both US / Canadian taxes. Now, that he is in Canada and is a Canadian Citizen, we believe he should be getting paid out of the Canadian Payroll systems with Fed/CPP/EI deduction instead of US taxes. He believes the company is in the process of letting him go and replacing him with a Jr. employee for less pay. As they are an "At Will" State and don't need to pay him a severance once they let him go they are keeping him on the US payroll for their protection. Would you be able to tell us what we would do in this situation and what taxes should be deducted from him income?Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

American in Canada -

Hello,My wife and I (both US citizens) are considering moving to Vancouver. I'm a xxxxxxxx, telecommuting for a start-up company (Delaware company with its office in New York City). And I'm trying to start a new career as a screenwriter/cameraman/director.I'm trying to make a general comparison of the taxes we'd pay as residents of Seattle, or Portland, OR, or Vancouver. We believe Vancouver would be the best fit, but we're concerned about Canadian taxes.Current salary through the company is $62,500 (US). Other interest income from U.S. accounts totals about $23,000 per year (US).Can you give me a basic summary of what I might expect as U.S. versus Canadian (federal/provincial/city) taxes to expect? Also, if the start-up is successful, it may mean a buy-out in two or more years. Through annual stock options, my portion could mean value of seven figures. Any obvious considerations in that regard.Great website! I'm subscribing to the newsletter, and have no doubt where I'm coming for my tax help if we end up in Vancouver. Thanks very much,
